American Oak Ex-Rum 6.4L Barrel
American Oak Ex-Rum 6.4L Barrel
Crafted from the head of a bourbon barrel that had a second life aging Canadian whiskey before being sent to the Caribbean for rum, this oak carries a rich history. It has been planed for a smooth finish while preserving unique marks like stains, stamps, paint, brands, wax, spiles, saw marks, and traces of its past. We trim loose material from the original char layer, repair any joints, and apply a new char layer. Each barrel is distinct, full of character with its own story to tell.
Our used barrels are sourced from a broker, so detailed histories are sometimes limited. Based on available stamps and markings, we believe these barrels were used by Hiram Walker in the early 1960s, likely manufactured around 1955. These barrels are over 40 years old and may be as old as 70.
Each barrel comes with two bungs: one used during testing and a spare.
Due to the low availability of these barrel heads, quantities are limited.
