Pacific Madrone (Arbutus menziesii) is a dense Pacific Northwest hardwood with a slightly sweet and savory flavor profile. Though not commonly used for aging spirits, it has shown potential to enhance lighter spirits like gin, whiskey, brandy, and tequila, adding subtle sweetness and complexity. This latest Experimental Series barrel offers a unique opportunity to explore new flavor profiles.

I ordered this in December of 2025. I followed the directions that came with the barrel. It was simple and easy. Filled the barrel with some good bourbon mash distillate. I filled it in January so it has aged just a short period. I would say approximately 4 months. I sampled the whiskey last night and was amazed of the complexity and wonderful taste. I want more but will have to fight the urge to further indulge. If you want something to be proud to share with friends and family I highly recommend this aging barrel. I would have given it a 5 star but am saving that for further aging because I have faith it is going to get much better!
